Karen Stallman

Continuing Education and Professional Development Director

A double alumna of SIU Carbondale, Karen Stallman earned her Bachelor of Science degree and Illinois teaching certificate in 1983 and her master’s degree in 1987. Both degrees are in agricultural education.

Employed at Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) July, 2004 – May, 2013, Stallman was the director of sustainability leading the college’s Sustainability Center initiatives. Also while at SWIC, she was director of the Green Jobs/Green Economy Initiative, vice provost of the Red Bud Campus and admissions specialist.

Stallman’s previous experience includes more than two years as a grant writer/researcher for Workforce Education and Development at SIU Carbondale, and time as a regional coordinator for the Illinois Secretary of State’s Illinois Organ/Tissue Donor Program. She also worked nearly 20 years with the University of Illinois Extension in Randolph County, including a decade as unit leader and nine years as youth development extension adviser.

Her experience includes developing educational programs and initiatives of various types. Stallman began her duties as Continuing Education and Outreach Director at SIU on May 20, 2013 and works with units and departments across campus and in the community to build Continuing Education and Outreach and its programs. Currently the department is named Continuing Education and Professional Development and falls under Extended Campus at SIU.
